The historical Domaine de Chantilly
When I arrived at Chantilly I was met by a big and beautiful forest area. The silence was spreading and the noise and pollution from the city were replaced by birdsong and fresh air.
The luxurious hotel Auberge du Jeu de Paume *****
I checked in at the amazing 5 starred hotel Auberge du Jeu de Paume. The perfect point of departure for exploring the Chantilly Castle, the Great Stables and the hippodrome…and an extraordinary place it itself. A hotel not to miss out on.
And when I entered the elegant luxury room time stopped for a while. I sad down on the king size bed and thought to myself “what an amazing place”. A piece of heaven. I haven´t experienced a calm like this for a long time. And this is when I discovered the private terrace overlooking the beautiful garden of the Chantilly castle. I opened the doors and a big smile appeared on my face! Amazing!! I felt like a princess who had just arrived at her favorite castle.
I loved the room´s decoration. A wall with Jouy fabrics in warm colors that reminded me of them from a castle, but sophisticated and modern. Wherever I looked refined luxury materials caught my eyes…Even when I stepped into the bathroom I was met by shining marble…I loved this place.
Romantic dinner at the chic “Jardin d´hiver” bistro.
After having enjoyed my amazing room, I went downstairs to have dinner at the chic bistro “Jardin d´hiver” – the winter garden. A fabulous place to enjoy your dinner in romantic and quiet settings.
And what a delight to see the dinner being prepared just in front of me. Like entering the universe of the grand chefs and being trusted a part of their secrets: How to prepare an exquisite french cuisine based on fresh and seasonal products. Amazing.
And the starter, a Confis fois gras with marinated strawberries and grains of paradise was served. I appreciated the harmony between the soft fois gras, the crispy bread and the sweet strawberries. A real delicacy.
The “Black angus” beef steak with shallot jus and sweet potatoes. Very tender. It almost disappeared in the mouth without any effort. I loved it. For dessert I had a Rhubarb and vanilla cake..again a great combination between bitter and sweet.
I can only say that when I went back to my room I thought “if only I could go back and experience this dinner once again”.
Relaxation at the wonderful Valmont spa.
Next morning I went directly to the luxurious Spa Valmont at the Auberge du Jeu de Paume Chantilly.
Amazing breakfast at the terrace
After the Spa I had breakfast on the terrace. Here I reached the peak of happiness. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the peace from the idyllic Chantilly castle´s garden brought me back to nature. An ephemeral breeze made me feel like a bird flying over the garden, inhaling the fresh air. Liberating.
And the breakfast in itself was delicious. Fresh juice, coffee, pancakes, croissant, eggs etc. Everything you can dream of for a morning meal. And the good news is that when you order your breakfast YOU CHOSE your meal.
The splendors of the Domaine de Chantilly.
After a good morning meal, I went out to explore the area.
The Duke of Aumale, son of King Louis-Phillip was one of the greatest collectors of his time. Thanks to him you can discover more than 3000 works in the Library. And the Condé Museum, which is considered to hold the richest painting collection in France after that of Louvre.
After the visit I rented a golf car for an hour. An excellent way to discover the beautiful garden of the castle. I had great fun.
Chantilly is also known for its horse racing track, where prestigious races are held for the prix du Jockey Club and the prix de Diane. I was impressed by the big stables, built by the Princes of Condé. Here you can see the beautiful horses and ponies.
After my visit it was time to leave the hotel. They parked our car in front of the hotel and as I stepped into it and waved goodbye it was with a nostalgic look in my eyes. It had been such a pleasure to be there, so it was difficult to leave again.
