One night in Hamburg – what to do?

When travelling through Germany, dont miss out on one of the biggest and most vibrant cities, Hamburg. Where to stay and where to dine?
Hamburg, Germany’s second-largest city, really has a lot to offer. I was actually surprised by its charm! Its historic port, its Venise-like setting, and dynamic culinary scene. A great destination for a weekend getaway.
Whether you’re passing through for business or seeking a romantic escape, one night in Hamburg can be unforgettable — especially when experienced in style.
Here’s how to make the most of one luxurious evening in Hamburg.
Where to Stay: I stayed at the Steigenberger Hotel, situated in the heart of the city, a five-star haven located on the banks of the Alsterfleet canal. Fascinated by its grand architecture and sophisticated interior.
My room was spacious, with a beautiful classic-modern décor, and a great view to the canal. The perfect place to relax after a long day of travel.
The on-site wellness area provides a serene escape with a sauna, stream bath, and fitness zone. The perfect place to unwind before heading out.
Two young men stepped in the door, and I almost forgot that in Germany they go to the sauna naked. I started considering leaving the sauna before they would take off their clothes and intimidate me…but luckily it was 2 danes (like I) so they kept their clothes on 😀 and I stayed in the sauna.
Evening Stroll: Discovering Hamburg by Foot is a great experience.
The elegant Neustadt district is filled with high-end boutiques, galleries, and hidden courtyards. Just a short walk away lies the historic Speicherstadt — the world’s largest warehouse district, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I went directly to the Elbphilharmonie, an architectural marvel perched above the Elbe River.
Even if you don’t go for a concert, go to the public viewing platform.
It offers panoramic views of the harbor and city skyline… simply amazing!
This is also where you’ll find the amazing Brick bar.
Dinner & Drinks: The Brick Bar!
I’m a huge fan of rooftops and great views, so I loved this bar.
The ambiance – contemporary and relaxed, with dim lighting, nice music, and an inviting buzz of conversation.
The menu strikes a perfect balance between comfort and creativity.
But it’s the bar that truly shines. The Brick bar is known for its expertly crafted cocktails — whether you prefer a classic Negroni or a bold house creation infused with local botanicals, the bartenders here are true artisans.
Pair your drink with a view of the city lights through the large windows, and toast to a night well spent
A Night to Remember
By the time I returned to the Steigenberger, the city had become quieted, leaving only the glow of streetlights reflecting off the water.
One night may not be enough to experience everything Hamburg has to offer — but its a good start.
