Top things to do in South Africa
A 3 weeks safari expedition in South Africa is an absolutely must do! Without doubt one of the most beautiful journeys. A true adventure. Discover some of the top places to visit here.
During 3 weeks I explored some spectacular places that I´ll share with you here: Johannesburg, Kruger National Park, Blyde River Canyon, Chobe National Park, Botswana & the Okavango Delta – the largest inland delta in the world, not to forget the breathtaking Victoria Falls.
- Kruger national park
A journey into the wild… surrounded by wilderness and animals in their homeland..Lions who had just attacked a giant giraffe and now were enjoying their meal…a rare sight…
Elephants, that unlike those you see in the zoo, will attack you if you approach them! The 50 meters safety distance wasn’t that important to our guide…she decided to drive past an elephant standing right next to the road. As I rolled down the window I realized that she had stopped the car right in front of it..and that the 3 warning signs, before it would attack, had begun: strong sounds, movements and ear flapping… I counted them all and I took this picture without zoom…just before I heard my cousin scream “drive..now”..and then we drove! Just in time.
Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of 19,485 square kilometres in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. It holds a spectacular wildlife that must be explored…Besides the big 5, there are thousands of species to observe…an indescribable new world…
When searching for accommodation, go after the luxury lodges and you´ll feel like Karen Blixen in Africa…
The majestic Panorama Route in Mpumalanga offers breathtaking views of the Blyde River Canyon, with massive waterfalls and the Bourke’s Luck Potholes (that you´ll see on the pictures) – an unusual and unique geological feature. They were formed by water churning sand and stones over thousands of years…
3. Blyde River Canyon
Some say that the Blyde river canyon is the 3rd largest Canyon in the world…
4. Chobe National Park
Chobe National Park can be found in northern Botswana and is famous for its large herds of elephant.
5. The Okavango Delta
The driving distances through Africa are huge and so is the Okavango Delta – one of the largest inland deltas in the world – that can be found in Northern Botswana. In 2014 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List..and I understand why… definitely one of the most beautiful places I´ve ever seen. Via a hollow tree trunk you´ll be sailed far into the wild delta to camp under the stars in one of Africa’s greatest wildernesses.
A fantastic journey though nature and silence…
We were going to sleep in a little tent in a small camp, just next to the big savanna, well knowing that only 100 meters away the lions would be hunting at night, and on the other side hippos would be sleeping in the dark water….
As the evening approached a guide would sail us back into the delta via narrow waterways…
To observe the hippos. Our guide explained that it´s the animal that kills the most men in Africa…
In the Okavango Delta you equally can find other large concentrations of animals such as the: African Bush Elephant, African Buffalo, Lechwe, Topi, Blue Wildebeest, Giraffe, Nile crocodile, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Brown Hyena, Spotted Hyena, Greater Kudu, Sable Antelope, Black Rhinoceros, White Rhinoceros, Plains Zebra, Warthog, Chacma Baboon…not to forget the many bird and fish species…
And an unforgettable sunset…
6. Flying over the Okavango Delta
When you get back into the mainland you can fly over the Delta and experience the enormous land from a different perspective…
The Okavango Delta is a vast ecosystem created by the Okavango River that flows into the parched Kalahari Desert.
Then we continued towards the Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls…
7. Zimbabwe – Victoria Falls.
The victoria falls can be found at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe..and is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world.
Besides visiting the Victoria Falls you can try different adventure activities such as river rafting on the mighty Zambezi River, bungee jumping and elephant rides…
I started out with the world´s 2nd largest bungee jump: 111 meters free fall…
And then an elephant ride…
And finally one of the world´s craziest rafting tours for tourists, at the zambezi river where you´ll guide your boat skillfully over 23 raging rapids…hopefully you´ll survive the crocodiles and wild water…
Africa is amazing…
Amazing Post…!! there are everything things to do awesome. it’s my favorite destination i’m planning to visit very soon.
